Careers at the IDB

The IDB wants people eager to work on bringing about economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Some of the challenges include:

  • Expanding opportunities for the region’s low-income majorities.
  • Implementing effective social policies in alignment to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
  • Boosting investment in infrastructure.
  • Fostering energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
  • Expanding coverage of water and sanitation services.
  • Promoting science and technology and research and development.
  • Supporting private sector development and job creation.

The IDB offers a stimulating environment where innovation is recognized and teamwork is prized. The Bank only hires citizens of its 48 member countries for positions in its Washington, DC headquarters and in its 28 offices in Latin America and the Caribbean, Paris and Tokyo.

Fluency in at least two of the institution’s four official languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese and French) is required for most positions.

As an international organization, the IDB is committed to equal opportunity for all job applicants, based on their individual merits. It also promotes diversity in hiring, including gender, nationality, race, culture, education and experience.

The IDB Human Resources Department welcomes China as the newest member country of the Bank and is pleased to invite all qualified Chinese nationals to apply for open positions in the Bank.
