The IDB Group is committed to promoting the expansion and strengthening of the private sector, which plays a key role as an engine of economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Bank is a key business partner for micro, small, medium-size and big businesses and banks that operate in all sectors of the economy.

In its commitment to promoting sustainable, innovative projects with a strong impact on regional development, the IDB Group has built a sophisticated relationship with the private sector. For the Bank, the private sector is not only a client and supplier of goods and services, but also an active stakeholder and essential source of experience and shared know-how.

The IDB Group works with liaison networks to promote business and investment opportunities in the region.

 

IDB Group loans, credits and grants have increased considerably through the four windows open to the private sector: the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), the Opportunities for the Majority Initiative (OM) and the Structured and Corporate Finance Department (SCF). The IDB Group has been working closely with the private sector to leverage additional resources to carry out bigger scale projects that will have an impact on the development of the region. The IDB Group has ratified its commitment as an ally of the private sector for regional development and growth, acting as co-financier and partner in specific initiatives, and also through its corporate social responsibility policies. The Better Conditions for Productivity, or Mejorando de Ambiente Productivo (MAP) provides technical assistance to studies and activities aimed at improving the business environment and implementing effective production development policies in Latin America and the Caribbean. MAP Line funds are available to consultants and public and private organizations that study areas such as informality and markets, access to financing and credit, production development policies and improvements to the business climate. These analyses and small-scale projects provide lessons that may be scalable in other regions or countries. More >
