Types of Financing

The IDB Group uses loans, grants, guarantees and investments to fund development programs.

Since 1959, the IDB has approved $145 billion for projects, mobilizing more than $336 billion in investments. The Bank’s activities cover the entire spectrum of economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean, with an emphasis on programs that benefit low-income populations. The IDB finances both public and private sector projects in the region.

In public sector lending, while emphasis varies according to the region’s evolving needs, current priorities include support for global competitiveness, poverty reduction, state modernization and regional integration.

The IDB Group provides financing for private sector projects through the Bank's Structured and Corporate Finance Department, as well as through the Inter-American Investment Corporation and the Multilateral Investment Fund.
